Acetosal review

Acetosal, also known as Aspirin (USAN), is used as an antipyretic to reduce fever, as an anti-inflammatory to reduce swelling, and as an analgesic to alleviate minor pains and aches. Acetosal is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever from typical maladies such as headaches, toothaches, muscle aches, and the acute coryza. Acetosal may be used to reduce arthritic swelling and pain as well. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicament or NSAID, which works by blocking a natural substance in the body to reduce inflammation, throbbing and aches.

The length of treatment and the dosage are typically dictated by the patient's condition and their response to the medicament.

As a preventative measure for heart disease or a long-term anticoagulant the typical dose is 75 milligrams per day. This will vary depending on the doctor's assessment of the patient and their condition. As a painkiller, the recommended dose is 275-300 milligrams every six to eight hours, but not exceeding three doses per day. Usually, one to two tablets every three to four hours may be used for adults, but no more than 12 within a 24-hour period. For children, it is half the adult dose at a maximum.

Do not treat a child younger than 12 years old with this medicament unless you have consulted a doctor first. Do not use this medicament if you are on any other anti-coagulants such as Warferin or if you have had a stomach ulcer in the past twelve months. Read the product label for recommendations on the number doses you can take in a 24-hour period and how long you are able to self-treat before seeking medical advice. The recommended dose should not be your only basis for determining the proper dosage for you. It's always best to read the product label before taking any medicament. Consult your doctor if you have any further questions about proper dosage or taking this medicine.

Do not overdose on Acetosal by taking more than recommended or for a longer period than recommended unless your doctor tells you to. Acetosal should never be given to feverish children or teenagers, especially if the child also has chicken pox or flu symptoms. This medicament can sometimes cause the fatal condition called Reye's syndrome in children.

Do not use this medicament if you are allergic to this or any NSAID such as Feldene, Relafen, Mobic, Toradol, Voltaren, Lodine, Indocin, Orudis, Aleve, Motrin, and Advil. Consult with your doctor regarding your medical history. Let them know if you have a recent history of stomach or intestinal bleeding or a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia. Your doctor also needs to know if you are allergic to any medicaments or if you have a bleeding or clotting disorder, kidney disease, liver disease, stomach ulcers, asthma or seasonal allergies, gout, nasal polyps, heart disease, high blood pressure, or congestive heart failure. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take this medicament if you currently have or have had any of the above conditions.

An allergic reaction to this medicament includes swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or hives. Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these conditions.

Stop taking this medicament and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects: hearing problems, ringing in your ears, swelling or pain lasting longer than ten days, fever lasting longer than three days, severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, and black, bloody, or tarry stools.

Common side effects include headache, somnolence, upset stomach, or heartburn. Though these are not cause for alarm, you still want to consult your doctor if you experience any of these or other symptoms.

Keep in mind that this is not a complete list of side effects and other side effects may occur. In the event that you experience side effects not listed here, consult with your doctor to determine the proper course of action.
