Calonat review

Calonat is marketed as Decadron, Decaject, Dexamethasone Intensol, Dexpak and Solurex. It is a corticosteroid and a synthetic version of hormones, occuring naturally in the human body. Healthcare professionals prescribe this medication to replace hormones when the affected role’s body doesn’t make enough. Lack of the hormone can cause inflammation, which is relieved by Calonat. Calonat can be used to treat arthritis and other disorders including skin, eye, kidney, blood, and intestinal disorders, especially colitis. It is helpful in controlling allergic reactions including asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and serum sickness. Calonat can be used to treat multiple sclerosis or cerebral edema and some cancers, especially the pain associated with them.

Calonat is available in a tablet and liquid. It is important to follow the directions exactly as written. If you don’t understand the directions, ask your healthcare professional, nurse or pharmacist. Dosage and timetable are very precisely calibrated for this medication. Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your healthcare professional. Steroids and other hormone-based medications are often prescribed in such a way that the dosage and frequency gradually taper off. An abrupt stop can result in serious side effects including loss of appetite or upset stomach, emesis, drowsiness, confusion, headache, pyrexia, joint and muscle pain, peeling skin, or sudden weight loss.

Common side effects include upset stomach, emesis, headache, dizziness, insomnia, restlessness, depression or anxiety, acne, increased hair growth, bruising easily, and irregular periods. Other more serious side effects include rash, skin edema of the face or ankles, problems seeing, colds or infections that do not seem to go away, weakness in the muscles, or black or tarry stool. If you experience any of the second set of side effects, call your healthcare professional immediately.

It is important to keep any appointments with your healthcare professional and for lab work. Your healthcare professional may want you to take certain tests to tell how you are responding to the Calonat. If your condition worsens or your side effects are especially bad, your dosage may need to be adjusted. Be cautious about your exposure to other diseases since Calonat lowers the immune system and may make you more susceptible to infections or other diseases. You need to report any sign of infection, such as pyrexia, sore throat, or muscle aches, to your healthcare professional immediately.

Calonat can be very effective in children and adults; however, it should be used with caution with pregnant women. The effects of the medication on a developing fetus are unknown, but side effects including cleft palate have been observed in laboratory animals given a course of Calonat. Calonat could appear in breast milk and cause growth problems for a nursing baby, so nursing mothers should make sure to speak to their healthcare professional prior to taking this medication.
