Carbenicillinum review

Carbenicillinum, distributed under the brand name Geocillin, is used as an antibiotic and is part of the group of penicillin medications. Carbenicillinum can fight various types of bacteria inside the body but is ineffective on viral infections that are common to colds and the flu. Carbenicillinum is available in a tablet and is administered orally to patients with infections due to bacteria, including patients with a bladder infection.

The proper dosage for Carbenicillinum is based on a series of laboratory tests. For best results, it is recommended that this medication be taken orally at least an hour before a meal. Taking the medicine with a glass of water will make it easier to swallow.

Follow the prescribed dosage and schedule given by the doctor and do not alter the dosage or schedule. Never take two doses to make up for a missed dose. Simply forget the missed dose and take the next one.

In case of overdose, immediately seek medical help.

Patients taking Carbenicillinum may experience some side effects. The common known side effects include fever, unusual weakness, severe skin itching and pilling, unusual behavior, seizure, diarrhea and difficulty in urinating. Less serious side effects include headache, swollen tongue, vomiting, stomach pain, and vaginal discharge or itching. If any of these side effects occur, consult your doctor before continuing with the medication.

Individuals allergic to Carbenicillinum and other antibiotics such as Ampicillin, Amoxicillin, Oxacillin, Penicillin and Dicloxacillin must avoid using this medicine.

Always inform your doctor if you are taking other prescribed medicines, herbal medicines, vitamins and other substances that may interact or interfere with Carbenicillinum.

Also make certain that you have made your doctor aware of your complete medical history including intestine or stomach disorders, kidney problems and blood disorders. Avoid using the medicine longer than prescribed by your physician as it will lead to secondary infections such as vaginal yeast infection, oral infection and bladder infection.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant prior to taking this medication. The effectiveness of hormone-based birth control pills may be interfered with when used with Carbenicillinum. Ask your doctor about other alternative birth control methods you can use while undergoing treatment with Carbenicillinum.

Carbenicillinum is prescribed based on your medical condition. Due to this it is not advisable to use the medication again in case of another infection. This medication should not be shared with anyone else even if they have the same symptoms. Consultation with a doctor is necessary before taking this medication.

Patients taking this medication are required to have a regular check up of their blood, kidney and liver functions. This is to determine if the medication is working well and treating the infection. You must follow the schedules according to the doctor’s orders.
