Hydiphen review

Ever wondered why there are people who are obsessive and are now known to have an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)? Wonder if there is a cure? Let Hydiphen help with this.

This is a prescribed medication for OCD treatment but has more side effects than the SSRI's which prevent serotonin from being reabsorbed by the cell and consequently helps prolong that light feeling that the brain needs. This medication is acknowledged to relieve depression and mood condition.

Defined as the 3-chloro derivative of imipramine, it is potent but not exactly an SSRI because the primary active metabolite desmethylclomipramine acts as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.

This medication is also used for panic attacks with or without agoraphobia, narcolepsy, premature ejaculation, chronic pain and enuresis. Similar to other SSRI's, it takes 2- 3 weeks for the patient to experience the full benefits of the medication.

Though it has more side effects than SSRI's, it is considered a second-line treatment should your SSRI fail. It might be slightly more effective as far as treating the symptoms of OCD are concerned. Curiously, Hydiphen and SSRI's (Paroxetine) are considered potent treatments for premature ejaculation.

One of the downsides of the medication is a higher incident of seizures than other tricyclic anti-depressants. But, it is touted to be slightly better in the treatment of depression as compared to other tricyclics.

Being a non-controlled substance, there is a potential for its abuse or dependence. Withdrawal symptoms occur if you abruptly stop its use. Symptoms include agitation, fatigue, nausea, headaches, insomnia, sometimes activation of mania and rebound of depression or mood condition. If there is a need to immediately terminate use, benzodiazepines should be taken for up to four weeks (if needed) to suppress the unpleasant symptoms.

There's also a list of side effects associated with the medication which includes fatigue, dizziness, lightheadedness, headaches, confusion, agitation, insomnia, nightmares, increased mood condition, and seizures (0,5% to 2%, see above)

It has anticholingeric side effects such as dry mouth, costiveness, rarely ileus (paralysis of the large intestine, life-threatening), difficulty urinating, sweating, precipitation of glaucoma (may lead to permanent eye-damage or even blindness, if untreated).

Because of the strong central and peripheral blockage of alpha receptors, antiadrenergic side effects might also be experienced including hypotension, postural collapse (when patient is rising too fast from lying or sitting position to standing), arrhythmias (sinus tachycardia, heart slowness, AV block, rarely other forms of cardiac problems). Preexisting heart conditions can be worsened.

Patients suffering from emotional instability should receive the smallest amount of the medication. It is also advised to be cautious with its use on elderly people because they are more prone to the effects of the medication. Pregnant women should only use this medication if clearly needed because it is excreted into breast milk.
