  Irbesartan

Irbesartan

Irbesartan review by Medicalook.com

Irbesartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker that is primarily used alone or in combination with other drugs for the treatment of hypertension. It was developed in the clinical laboratories of Sanofi Research and is currently marketed by Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Irbesartan is made available worldwide under the brand names Avapro, Aprovel, and Karvea.

Irbesartan offers powerful results against high blood pressure due to its ability to block the activity of certain chemicals in the blood vessels, making the blood flow run smoothly. Irbesartan is also prescribed to patients with type 2 diabetes. The drug is found to be useful in delaying the progress of kidney damage in patients with an abnormal usage of insulin.

Irbesartan is administered orally. Its common form is as a tablet taken once every day. Like with any other drugs, the use of Irbesartan must be handled properly. It must not be used by patients with allergies to angiotensin inhibitors or any of their components. Irbesartan must be used cautiously with other medications, especially those that increase the concentration of potassium in the blood. Your entire medicine usage must be discussed with your doctor to ensure that you are not encouraging any form of drug interaction with your Irbesartan treatment. Irbesartan is also contraindicated to women who are planning to become pregnant, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding. The drug can be passed on directly to the fetus and through the breast milk to the nursing child. Its effects can be startling.

The use of Irbesartan must be under careful supervision of a qualified doctor. The patient’s progresses with the drug must be closely monitored to ensure safety. Irbesartan treatment can cause several physical discomforts. If you are under close monitoring, your doctor would know instantly whether your symptoms of side effects overpower the benefits you are getting from the drug. Thus, he can take actions immediately including adjusting your dosage or giving you an entirely different prescription.

Irbesartan can cause runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea, abdominal pain, heartburn, and excessive tiredness. All these symptoms, however, go away completely once your body becomes well-adjusted to the drug. There is a reason for you to be alarmed if your side effects become bothersome. Take note of less common side effects like breathing difficulty, swelling, hives, and fainting and report to your doctor immediately if they occur. Always remember that your symptoms of side effects must not be greater than the positive outcome that you are getting from Irbesartan. Anyone from your family or the people you are closely interacting with must also know of this so they will know how to deal with an irregularity if it ever happens.

Irbesartan is not meant to treat your hypertension. It is only a maintenance drug that will control your blood pressure from shooting up so it does not make your heart overworked. Treatment with this drug, therefore, must be carried out on a regular basis to be effective. Unless your doctor directed you to do so, do not change anything in your dosages.
