Lyovac Cosmegen is used to treat various types of cancer including testicular and sarcomas. It belongs to a group of cancer-fighting medicaments that inhibit the growth of cancer cells in the body.


Lyovac Cosmegen is usable under the brand names Act-D and Actinomycin D and is commonly prescribed to children, but adults may also benefit from this medicament. Lyovac Cosmegen is for the treatment of cancers of the soft tissue and bones particularly tendons and muscles, tumors in the womb, and cancer of the testicles.


Lyovac Cosmegen is injected in a vein for about 15 minutes. Patients are often given a medicine prior to Lyovac Cosmegen to stop any vomiting or nausea once the medicament is administered.

The dosage of Lyovac Cosmegen depends on the patient's size, blood count, condition and the cancer being treated. Blood counts are typically taken before treatment of Lyovac Cosmegen. If the lab tests indicate unsafe conditions, the treatment of Lyovac Cosmegen will be delayed.

It is usual for patients to take Lyovac Cosmegen with other chemotherapy dugs.


Lyovac Cosmegen can decrease the amount of white blood cells in the body for weeks after treatment has ended, which can increase the patient's risk of infection. Patients should immediately inform their medicos if they experience symptoms of an infection like high fever, pain when urinating, chills, or coughs.

Lyovac Cosmegen can lower the platelet count of the patient for a few weeks after being used, increasing the patient's risk of bleeding. Patients should notify their medico if they experience unexplained bleeding including nosebleeds, tarry stools, or bleeding gums.

There is a risk that Lyovac Cosmegen will decrease the amount of red blood cells in the body. Anemia, a decreased red blood cell count, results in difficulty in breathing, and exhaustion. Your medico may prescribe additional medicines to prevent this condition or the patient may need to have a blood transfusion.

Patients should not have any vaccinations while taking this medicament without the prior approval of their medico. Lyovac Cosmegen can affect a patient's immune system, which can alter the effectiveness of vaccinations and can lead to severe infections.


Patients may feel sick after taking Lyovac Cosmegen so medicos usually prescribed anti-nausea medicaments to treat nausea and vomiting.

Lyovac Cosmegen can result in rapid baldness. However, this is a temporary side effect and the hair normally grows back after the treatment.

Patients should talk with their medico about their complete medical history, especially if they have had liver, kidney, heart diseases, diabetes, heart failure, gout, kidney stones, and infections. These conditions may require the dosage of Lyovac Cosmegen to be changed accordingly.

Patients who have been treated with radiation are usually given decreased dosages of Lyovac Cosmegen.


This medicament can have an effect on the fertility of its users. It can cause birth defects, especially if the mother took Lyovac Cosmegen during pregnancy or conception. Patients who are taking Lyovac Cosmegen should use birth control to lessen risks of conception.
