Myotonachol review

Myotonachol, a parasympathomimetic choline ester with a stimulating effect on muscarinic receptors, is responsible for the contraction of the smooth muscle tone. It is often given to patients who have recently had abdominal surgery, given birth, or who suffer from urinary retention to help them empty their bladder. Myotonachol is suggested for oral or subcutaneous (under the skin) administration to ease urinary retention due to general anesthesia in surgery, diabetic neuropathy of the bladder (a diabetes complication that causes nerve damage), in the management of gastrointestinal atony (lack of gastric muscular tone), and bladder overdistention (the bladder retains an abnormal amount of residual urine).

Myotonachol can be used to treat urination problems due to a malfunction of the bladder's nerves or weak bladder muscles, so long as there has been no prior diagnosis of urinary blockage. It is also used for patients with digestive problems like gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn).

Myotonachol stimulates the muscarinic receptors in the bladder and gastrointestinal tract, which causes them to contract and expel urine, and improve gastrointestinal motility, increase gastric tone and bring back peristalsis, the regular contraction of smooth muscles, which moves the contents of the digestive tract forward.

Before taking Myotonachol, patients need to disclose their complete medical history to their physician. This history should include whether or not the patient has or has had stomach ulcers, uncontrolled hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), asthma, recent bladder or intestinal surgery, intestinal blockage or bowel disease, slow heart rate or low blood pressure, coronary artery disease, difficult urination, Parkinson's disease, or any kind of seizure disorder like epilepsy. Patients with these conditions should not take Myotonachol, or at the very least, their physician should prescribe a lower dose and monitor them during the course of treatment.

Patients should tell their physician if they have had allergic reactions to Myotonachol, tartrazine dye, food preservatives or any other medicines. Patients should let their physician know if they are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Myotonachol has been categorized by the Food & Drug Administration as pregnancy category C, so it is unknown if the medication poses harm to an unborn baby. Breastfeeding mothers should talk to their physicians before taking Myotonachol to determine if there is a risk to the nursing baby.

Other medications may interact negatively with Myotonachol so patients taking quinidine, donezipil, tacrine, procainamide, cholinesterase inhibitors, ganglionic blocking compounds, and medications used for colds or nasal congestion may experience negative reactions when taking these medications with Myotonachol. Patients should provide their physician a list of all prescription and non-prescription medications they are taking, including vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements prior to taking Myotonachol.

This medication can cause drowsiness so patients taking this medication should refrain from driving or operating any type of machinery. Alcoholic beverages contribute to the dizziness caused by this medication, so patients taking this medication should refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages. Myotonachol may alter some blood test results, so patients are advised to inform their physician that they are taking this medication before undergoing any blood tests.

Side effects include upset stomach, increased salivation, nausea, vomiting, sweating or flushing. If the patient experiences shortness of breath, a slow heart rate, hypotension (low blood pressure), bronchial spasms or fainting, call their physician immediately. If there are extreme allergic reactions such as swelling of the lips, tongue or face, hives, closing of the throat, wheezing and tightness in the chest, seek emergency medical attention.

This medication, manufactured by Glenwood is also available as Duvoid by Roberts and Urecholine by Merck Frosst. All three manufacture the medication in 5mg round white pills, 10mg round pink pills, 25mg round yellow pills and 50mg round yellow pills.

Proper dosage of the medication is dependant on the patient and the type of illness being treated. Patients are advised to take the medication orally on an empty stomach with plenty of fluids as prescribed by their physician.
