Tamsulosin review

Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker, which is mainly used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH or an enlarged prostate in simpler terms. It works by relaxing the muscles found in the prostate and the bladder area to encourage normal urine flow. The symptoms of BPH, which are basically urination disorders, can be reduced with the use of Tamsulosin.

Tamsulosin is also sometimes used in combination with other drugs for superior benefits.

Before using Tamsulosin, it is important that you have consulted medical professional about the benefits and possible risks. You also need to discuss some personal factors that may affect the efficiency of the drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Tamsulosin, to any drug, or to anything at all. This will lessen the risks of inviting allergic reactions with the treatment.

Medical history must also be discussed including previous conditions connected to the liver and kidney. Tell your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with a prostate abnormality or prostate cancer before.

Tamsulosin is exclusively made for men. It should not be used for women, especially if she is pregnant or lactating. Tamsulosin may pose harmful effects not just to the adult but her offspring as well.

Tamsulosin comes in capsule form. It is taken by mouth usually once daily. You must take Tamsulosin with food. It is recommended that you take your medicine at least 30 minutes after a meal. To avoid missing a dose, take Tamsulosin at about the same time each day. If you still miss it, take your medicine as soon as you remember unless it is too close for your next dosing schedule. In case of the latter, you will need to discard your missed dose and just continue with your regular dosing schedule.

To avoid serious adverse reactions, Tamsulosin is usually started on a low dose. The doctor will increase the dose slowly within four weeks. Never adjust your dosage by yourself. Tamsulosin is a complicated drug that may cause bigger health problems if not handled properly. Always keep a close contact with your doctor. Report your body’s reactions to the drug and have yourself checked of your progress through clinical and laboratory tests.

Dizziness, upset stomach, blurry vision, and severe headache are signs of overdose. If you experience any of those symptoms, rush to see your doctor.

Tamsulosin may cause some discomfort. Some signs of a Tamsulosin side effect include diarrhea, runny nose, sleep disorders, weakness, and flu-like symptoms. Those side effects usually disappear shortly. If yours do persist for far longer or worsen, you must call your doctor immediately. Also, keep an eye for more serious, less common side effects. Painful erection and allergic reactions are definite causes for alarm.

To be completely safe with Tamsulosin, regular check-ups and consultations are important. You must never miss an appointment with our doctor. This will give him the opportunity to check your progress with the drug including the side effects you might be suffering from.
