Theo-24 review

Theo-24 is a brand name for the generic medication theophylline anhydrous. It belongs to a class of drugs called bronchodilators, which means it helps to clear blocked passages in the lungs. Theo-24 is prescribed to treat the symptoms of asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and other lung diseases which result from these blockages. The symptoms of these blockages can include wheezing, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing, and are often caused when the air passages in the lungs contract, making it difficult for air to flow through. Theo-24 can control the symptoms of these diseases, but it does not cure them, so do not stop taking it even when you feel well, or the symptoms can come back.Theo-24 comes in extended release capsules, tablets, solution, and a syrup that is taken by mouth.

Like all medications Theo-24 may cause some side effects. Some of these can include upset stomach, diarrhea, restlessness, irritability, stomach pain, vomiting, headache, flushing, palpitations, muscle tremors or insomnia. Other more serious side effects can also occur. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience vomiting, increased heart rate, irregular heart beat, skin rash, or seizures. You may be experiencing an allergic reaction if you have hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your lips, face, tongue or throat. If that happens, stop using Theo-24, contact your doctor or get emergency help immediately.

There are some people who should be very cautious in taking Theo-24. Make sure to tell your doctor if you are taking Zyloprim, Zithromax, Tegretol, Tagemet, Cipro, Biaxin, diuretics, lithium, oral contraceptives, Dilantin, Deltasone, Inderal, Rifadin, Sumycin, or other medications for infections or heart disease. You should also tell your doctor if you are taking non-prescription medications for vitamins, including ephedrine, epinephrine, phenylpropanolamine, or pseudoephedrine, as these are contained in many over the counter drugs and can increase the side effects of Theo-24. Your doctor should also be told if you have ever had seizures, ulcers, heart disease, an over active or under active thyroid, liver disease, high or low blood pressure, a history of alcohol abuse, or if you smoke, since tobacco can decrease the effectiveness of Theo-24.

Theo-24 can be used with children, but they should be monitored carefully because they may be unable to recognize or report side effects. The same may be true of the elderly, who should be similarly watched. It is not recommended for babies under a year old or for those over age sixty. Theo-24 is in Pregnancy Category C, which means that it is not known whether it is safe for pregnant women or developing fetuses. There are no adequate human studies, though animal tests have shown no evidence of birth defects. It is known, however, that it passes into breast milk, and may cause irritability or other signs of negative reactions in babies. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are nursing or planning to nurse a baby, discuss with your doctor whether Theo-24 is an appropriate medication for you.
